Never return” . . . well, at least not for a few years, eh?

  1. Definitely a dark & somber note to end on. Honestly the JSA got a better send off here compared to how they were treated during Zero Hour, being deaged & killed off.
Going back to being “heroically” being forced to fight Surtur in Limbo for all eternity, if you’ve happened to read the Dark Multiverse issue dealing with the 1st CRISIS, you’d wonder how the hell they ever stood a chance given how easily Surtur wiped em all out, forcing Alan Scott to agree to be his herald in order to spare their world.

    1. That was the thing with the original story, though – they did get killed fairly easily, but were then reconstituted to continue the fight for all eternity. Honestly, I’m not sure that’s much of happy ending for them either.

And yeah, ZERO HOUR treated them shabbily. Dan Jurgens’s original idea was to end up with them back on Earth-2, but DC editorial didn’t go with that idea.

      1. Sure doesn’t seem like it. It’s like being stuck in a video game with unlimited continues, so you automatically respawn after each death, with little to no ground being gained.

Hmmm, ok that makes more sense given his prior treatment of them.
I’m not sure if it ever occurred to him to revisit their ultimate fates & fix it, giving them a better ending with the 30th anniversary special, or if it did but he decided against it.
