Lex’s Right Hand Man

New DC December solicitations are out and the two covers of Doomsday Clock #2 are revealed:

I’m not recognising the costume on the left – the black and white socks/leggings, the black corset with the red buttons and frilled collar. The only things that’s springing to mind is the Harlequin but I’m not convinced. The Nostalgia bottles and case in the bag labelled ….NITE aren’t clues either.

But on the left, his hand resting on Lex’s right shoulder? That’s clearly the armband of Ozymandias and as the solicitation says

DC and Watchmen characters collide at last!

it seems likely that at least one other Watchmen character besides Dr Manhattan is making their way to the DCU. Which makes me wonder if this bit of the solicitation:

And killer clowns trek through Gotham seeking a madman.

is referring to Rorschach – is he the madman?

Doomsday Clock Covers

I step away from the internet for a few days and what happens? DC release the first covers for the forthcoming Doomsday Clock series where Superman goes up against Dr Manhattan:

Somewhere along the line, I’d thought this was going to be a six issue series so was pleasantly surprised to note the cover saying “1 of 12”

All trepidation around mixing Watchmen with the DCU aside, that looks like a really nice piece of work from series artist Gary Frank.

Doomsday Clock Thoughts

So, it’s actually happening – Superman and Dr Manhattan are going to meet up sometime in or after November this year.

Geoff Johns is back to write a story about optimism versus pessimism and, surprisingly for a big event . . .

There are no crossovers. No watered down one-shots or mini-series on top of this one. This is a standalone story.

This concept – the DCU vs Watchmen could have been played out on a scale as large as Crisis on Infinite Earths if they’d wanted, so it’ll be interesting to see what they do with it.
