100 Issues Ago

I came across this “100 Issues Ago” panel in an old Justice League of America and thought I’d tidy it up and re-purpose it. If one month = one issue, what was I reading 100 Issues Ago?

Gail Simone’s Secret Six run was always a delight, whether as part of the Villains United run-up to Infinite Crisis, the mini-series that followed that or the well deserved ongoing series it had later. She took a bunch of misfit criminals, weirdos and anti-heroes and made them into a bizarre, messed up family that you couldn’t help but care about, without shying away from the fact that most of them were killers.

Sadly, the New 52 version by Simone didn’t catch on so well, possibly because the new team (even with a few old favourites) just didn’t seem to work together so well, even with the re-introduction of Elongated Man and Sue Dibny, an event which should have attracted more attention given the uproar caused by Ralph and Sue’s deaths in previous years.

Still, the first few volumes of Secret Six are well worth picking up if you’ve never read them.

Elongated Man Coming To The Flash

Well this is good news! Elongated Man is coming to the small screen in the next series of The Flash. According to the brief article,

[Ralph] Dibny will be a “fast-talking private investigator” who, after discovering his metahuman abilities will help Team Flash solve “one of Central City’s greatest mysteries.”

And with a bit of luck, if Ralph’s around, Sue won’t be too far away either.

I miss those two in the DCU – hopefully Rebirth will bring them back soon.

More Minifigs

Or at least miniature pictures of characters. Sort of.

Looking back at some old copies of Justice League America and Justice League Europe recently and I remembered the little pictures of characters that used to appear in the issue number box on DC comics back in the early 90s. Oddly, despite the larger membership at the time, the JLA only had two pairs:

JLE fared a little better:

and even managed to get a few more in after their revamp and new members:

I’d thought for a while that JLA/JLE were the only titles with those but a quick look through my collection turned up these from Green Lantern:

A couple from the Justice Society

(There was a Wildcat one but he was largely obscured by the cover art) as well as some odds and sods:

A little detail on the cover which always appealed to me for some reason.
