ComiXology

Just a quick one from me – I read an article over at Popverse asking whether ComiXology was going away any time soon (spoiler: no-one’s sure, but it seems possible) and that made me wonder if anyone who reads this still uses the site/app?

I was never a major consumer of digital comics – I’d keep half an eye on the occasional ComiXology sale and end up buying some series that I missed first time around (like the complete run of FATE or the Jurgens-led TEEN TITANS run) or a large collection that would normally cost £20 or more for £2.99, like the Busiek/Perez AVENGERS ASSEMBLE trades.

But since Amazon forced the move to the Kindle side of things and the app and website became a mess last year, I’ve not bought a single thing from there, and now that I’m caught up with the collections that I own, I can’t see myself going back to it, either.

So anybody here still a ComiXology user?

  1. Personally I’ve preferred physical copies of comics to digital ones. It’s just me, but I just prefer being able to hold & read them the old-fashioned way. Also, you don’t have to worry about error messages or not being able to open & read them bc the app isn’t working. So no, Comixology, despite hearing about it & the offers, never really appealed to me, and does so even less after hearing how bad Amazon has trashed it.
That being said I don’t have an issue with owing digital copies of video games tho.

      1. Yeah I never could get into the whole Kindle thing myself. You’re basically what, renting a book to read on a gloried tablet? Just buy the damn physical book!

  2. Some of the comics I’m reviewing comes from the ComiXology library. They actually did some improvements to the online reader, like bringing back guided view. Sadly anything bought through regular Amazon (and I’m not even sure how you get more new comics from ComiXology) still goes to the Kindle Reader and the function hasn’t been added to that, probably for technical reasons.
