Long time readers know I love a spreadsheet so, as I have done off and on over the last few years, here’s a look at what I’ve been buying in terms of publishers.

For the second year in a row, DC comes in second place to Image Comics, albeit just barely. It’s also noticeable that 2024 was the leanest year in terms of numbers of publishers – DC, Image, and Dark Horse were the only ones that I bought anything from.
In terms of numbers as opposed to percentages:

The continuing decline in numbers of individual issues continues with fewer than 150 issues bought in 2024, half of what I was buying ten years ago.
Dark Horse gave me the BLACK HAMMER miniseries; DC was mostly made up of GREEN ARROW, GREEN LANTERN, POWER GIRL, and SHAZAM!, with a few others mixed in. Image was mostly a split between the Ghost Machine titles (GEIGER, REDCOAT, HYDE STREET) and the Massive-Verse titles (RADIANT BLACK, ROGUE SUN) with BLOOD SQUAD SEVEN and a handful of others rounding them out.
I know there’s been new Justice League and Justice Society titles recently released, and some Green Lantern Corps titles are coming soon but, for the first time in about 30 years, I’m not bothering with them. I’ve been round the block with these titles too many times; I’d rather read something new and self contained.
Who knows what these charts will look like next year?

Not sure if you’re into buying back issues like my buddy who also blogs does, but that’s always a suggestion if you want to pad the numbers for those single issues. I can’t blame you for cutting down, especially given how much the overall quality across the main two companies continues to grow, depending of course on your personal tastes. That’s why, despite no longer actively buying comics, I’m more than appreciative of Indy publishers like Image, Dark Horse, etc existing as a viable alternative to the same old same old.

I still buy back issues periodically, but being the nerd I am, I track those separately!
