My Comic Purchases In 2024

Long time readers know I love a spreadsheet so, as I have done off and on over the last few years, here’s a look at what I’ve been buying in terms of publishers.

For the second year in a row, DC comes in second place to Image Comics, albeit just barely. It’s also noticeable that 2024 was the leanest year in terms of numbers of publishers – DC, Image, and Dark Horse were the only ones that I bought anything from.

In terms of numbers as opposed to percentages:

The continuing decline in numbers of individual issues continues with fewer than 150 issues bought in 2024, half of what I was buying ten years ago.

Dark Horse gave me the BLACK HAMMER miniseries; DC was mostly made up of GREEN ARROW, GREEN LANTERN, POWER GIRL, and SHAZAM!, with a few others mixed in. Image was mostly a split between the Ghost Machine titles (GEIGER, REDCOAT, HYDE STREET) and the Massive-Verse titles (RADIANT BLACK, ROGUE SUN) with BLOOD SQUAD SEVEN and a handful of others rounding them out.

I know there’s been new Justice League and Justice Society titles recently released, and some Green Lantern Corps titles are coming soon but, for the first time in about 30 years, I’m not bothering with them. I’ve been round the block with these titles too many times; I’d rather read something new and self contained.

Who knows what these charts will look like next year?

Untold Tales #955 Robin vs Captain Marvel

Robin’s down . . . and is Captain Marvel really to blame?!

Random Panels: Secret Identities

TERRA #4

Honestly, I don’t think PG’s secret identity was that difficult, even in 2008/09 when TERRA was published.

Of course, now we have the dreadful Paige Stetler scientist but not really and then a journalist but now a feature writer, none of which makes any sense . . .

Untold Tales #954 Hellboy vs Adam Strange

Science fiction combined with horror can produce some of the best chills – Alien and The Thing for instance – and now Adam Strange finds himself up against Hellboy! How is this going to end?
