Aw-Qward . . .

From Guy Gardner: Reborn #2, August 1992:

This was after Hal Jordan had kicked Guy out of the Green Lantern Corps, forcing him to find another power source. He’d gone to Qward, with Lobo in tow, looking to get a yellow power ring just like the one the Qwardians had made for Sinestro all those years before.

Trouble is . . .

That’s right – Sinestro’s ring used up all the Qwardamite on the planet which means it can never be duplicated!

Oh, hang on . . .

  1. I’d be tempted to say, yeah well that was post-CRISIS, except this WAS set during that time period as well before the Phew 52 reboot. I guess Johns and future writers chose to ignore that little important plot, and said “Fuck it”.

In comic explanation: Sinestro’s willpower is so strong he could do the un-do-able because he’s “The Great Sinestro” bitch!

That GG solo series was fun for awhile though before 1994.

    1. Yeah, I think Johns etc either didn’t know about it or chose to ignore it. I’m not 100% certain, but I think that’s the only ever mention of Qwardamite anywhere; I certainly don’t remember it from anywhere else.

I picked up the original Guy Gardner: Reborn miniseries but didn’t bother with the ongoing mainly because I’ve never been a big fan of Joe Staton’s art, but I think I’ll pick it up from Comixology soon just for the sake of completeness.

  2. Ha ha, me either, but his early GL stuff, when inked by others, tends to look better. By the early 90’s it was just looking straight up animated, and not in a good way. I only bought the first or second issue of his solo series before moving on to other “hits” from the the 90’s like Cyberforce, Sleepwalker, and Darkhawk. Plus I was also reading both the Flash and regular GL monthly around then too, so, sorry Guy shrugs

    1. Yeah, that’s what I dislike about Staton’s art – the cartoonish look. The Millennium stuff I’m reading now for the annotations isn’t too bad but that’s mostly down to Ian Gibson’s inks.
