The main differences between a Boomerang & a Batarang are as follows:
-Anyone can make a boomerang, but a Batarang can only be made by a millionaire orphan who’s devoted his life to ending crime.
-Batarangs are a lot more expensive to make because they’re made from grade A bats.
-Batarangs are trademarked. Boomerangs are not.
Hope that’s cleared up some things for you.

And you just know Batman’s trademarked the hell out of everything. 🙂

Batman is just trying to avoid charges of cultural appropriation, while also staying on brand.
