Cover: Top to bottom left to right are Superman; Wonder Woman; Aquaman; Hawkgirl; John Stewart; Batman; Black Canary; Green Arrow; and Black Adam.
Page 1 – Panel 3: Above Khandaq, Black Adam is abducted by forces yet unknown.
Page 2 – Panel 1: Batman is also abducted; to the left of the panel is Ghost-Maker; to the right is Clownhunter, both members of Batman Incorporated.
Page 2 – Panel 2: Wonder Woman disappears; to the left of her is Donna Troy; to the right is Wonder Girl Cassie Sandsmark.
Page 2 – Panel 3: On Oa, in front of the Central Battery, John Stewart is abducted.
Page 2 – Panel 4: Hawkgirl disappears; to the left is Vandal Savage; to the right is Lex Luthor.
Page 2 – Panel 5: Superman.
Page 2 – Panel 6: Zatanna.
Page 2 – Panel 7: Aquaman with Aquaman (Jackson Hyde, formerly Aqualad) behind him.
Page 2 – Panel 8: Martian Manhunter disappears as Naomi looks on.
Page 2 – Panel 9: Black Canary disappears while Green Arrow watches.
Page 3 – Panels 1 and 2: Arrow grabs on to Canary and they teleport together.
Page 3 – Panel 3: And they arrive to find Black Adam waiting.
Pages 4 and 5: Everyone has been brought to the House of Heroes. It seems almost redundant to name everyone on this spread as their handily identified across the top and bottom of the pages.
Dino-Cop’s comment to Batman of “Your father… he —” is referring to the events of JUSTICE LEAGUE INCARNATE #4 where Darkseid appeared to incinerate the Batman of the Flashpoint timeline.
Page 6 – Panel 1: President Superman and Dr Multiverse.
Page 6 – Panel 2: The House of Heroes was damaged in JUSTICE LEAGUE INCARNATE #2.
Page 7: There’s a lot going on here as President Superman summarises INFINITE FRONTIER and JUSTICE LEAGUE INCARNATE.
Across the top is Wonder Woman as seen in INFINITE FRONTIER #0 after she’d ascended at the end of DARK NIGHTS: METAL. Beside her is President Superman welcoming Barry Allen to Justice League Incarnate, while directly below them is Darkseid.
In the bottom left is Darkseid again; to the left of his head is Mr Bones and Obsidian; in his hand are Roy Harper; President Superman; Jade; and Psycho Pirate; these were the main characters in INFINITE FRONTIER. Psycho Pirate is incorrectly shown in his original black and red costume when he spend most of that series in black and white.
Below and to the right of Barry Allen is Captain Carrot fighting what looks to be Superdoom on the left; the character above him doesn’t match any of the Injustice Incarnate members that appeared in INFINITE FRONTIER #5. Below him is President Superman battling Machinehead.
Directly below that battle is Barry Allen sitting at the breakfast table on Earth-Flash.1 as seen at the end of INFINITE FRONTIER #6. Around the table (starting at the bottom left then working clockwise around it) are Don Allen; Iris Allen; Dawn Allen; the Flash; Wallace West (sitting on Flash’s lap); Nora West; Kid Flash; and the Flash (Jay Garrick).
To the left of that scene, between Darkseid and the table, is a scene from the end of JUSTICE LEAGUE INCARNATE #4 when some members of Justice League Incarnate were possessed by the Great Darkness. At the back are Thunderer and Aquawoman; in front of them is Orion holding Captain Carrot, and beside them Mary Marvel holding Avery Ho.
Directly below them are Justice League Incarnate watching the destruction of Earth-7 by the Empty Hand.
In the bottom right, taken from the cover of JUSTICE LEAGUE INCARNATE #5, is Darkseid looming over the heroes in the foreground (from left to right) Avery Ho; Captain Carrot; Superman; Dr Multiverse; Batman; and Mary Marvel.
Page 8 – Panel 2: Zatanna’s father died in SWAMP THING #50 as he, Zatanna, and other mystics tried to hold back the Great Darkness.
Page 8 – Panel 4: Wonder Woman’s comments refer to INFINITE FRONTIER #0.
Page 9 – Panel 1: The Great Darkness attacks the House of Heroes.
Page 9 – Panel 3: Green Arrow puts Batman in his place; they are the Justice League, after all.
Page 9 – Panels 5 and 6: Dr Multiverse teleports everyone out of the House of Heroes and into . . .
Pages 10 and 11 – Panel 1: . . . the ruins of Multiverse-2, the original pre-Crisis Multiverse as shown at the end of INFINITE FRONTIER #6.
Pages 10 and 11 – Panel 5: The heroes of both teams are joined the speaker who is . . .
Page 12 – Panel 1: . . . Pariah, originally introduced in CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS and, as he says, cursed to watch the destruction of universe after universe.
Page 12 – Panel 2: Avery and the other members of Justice League Incarnate encountered Pariah in JUSTICE LEAGUE INCARNATE #5.
Page 12 – Panel 4: “Great Disaster” is a phrase that has a lot of history in DC stories, principally as the description of the apocalypse that gave birth to the world of Kamandi.
Page 13 – Panel 2: Superman shows his goodness by wishing to help Pariah even at this stage.
Page 13 – Panel 4: But Pariah’s too far gone and spurns his offer.
Page 13 – Panel 6: Those silhouettes are the villains seen at the end of JUSTICE LEAGUE INCARNATE #5 and are . . .
Pages 14 and 15: . . . Pariah’s Dark Army. In the top left is Ares; next to him is the Upside-Down Man; in the top middle is Darkseid. Along the fron are Neron; Nekron; Darkseid; Eclipso; and the Empty Hand. Note they are all bound with chains across their chests as symbols of their enslavement by the Great Darkness. Behind them are multiple Shadow Demons.
Pages 16 and 17 – Panels 2 and 3: As the two Justice League teams battle the bad guys, Pariah looks to finish his machine to free the Great Darkness.
Pages 16 and 17 – Panel 5: Pariah’s origin, including his accidental destruction of his homeworld, was revealed in the classic CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS #7.
Pages 18 and 19 – Panel 1: John Stewart saves Batman from Nekron’s attack.
Pages 18 and 19 – Panel 2: Black Canary watches Avery Ho attack Neron.
Pages 18 and 19 – Panel 3: Thunderer faces off against Eclipso as he punches Martian Manhunter.
Pages 18 and 19 – Panel 4: Hawkgirl and Black Adam take on the Empty Hand.
Pages 18 and 19 – Panel 5: Superman and President Superman attack Darkseid.
Pages 18 and 19 – Panel 6: Aquawoman and Aquaman team up against Doomsday, with Aquaman noticing something wrong about the villains.
Pages 18 and 19 – Panel 7: Captain Carrot and Zatanna attack the Upside-Down Man; Captain Carrot’s aversion to magic was highlighted in JUSTICE LEAGUE INCARNATE #2.
Pages 18 and 19 – Panel 8: Wonder Woman and Dr Multiverse battle Ares.
Page 20 – Panel 1: Superman agrees with Aquaman.
Page 20 – Panel 2: And Wonder Woman backs them up, with Dr Multiverse offering the idea that Pariah’s control is spread too thinly.
Page 20 – Panel 4: And Darkseid, or perhaps the Great Darkness, confirms their suspicions saying the Dark Army’s full powers will be accessible once the Great Darkness is free.
Page 21 – Panels 1 and 2: Black Adam fires a mystical lightning bolt at Darkseid.
Page 21 – Panels 3 and 4: Though the art doesn’t make it immediately clear, the bolt has freed Darkseid of the chains and thus the Great Darkness’ control. In that instant, Darkseid attempts to give Black Adam some warning or advice.
Page 21 – Panels 5 and 6: But the chains (now visible again in panel 6) reappear as the Great Darkness regains control.
Page 22: John Stewart conjures his own army of constructs in the shape of Earth’s heroes. Starting in the top left and working clockwise around John are Starfire; Bizarro (above John’s shoulder); Steel (just above John’s head); the Atom; Firestorm; Dr Fate; Flash; Supergirl; Plastic Man; Cyborg; Hal Jordan; Deadman; and Guy Gardner. The Godstorm he mentions is a cosmic power he has recently (at the time of writing) absorbed giving him almost limitless power.
Page 23 – Panels 3 and 4: Pariah is able to summon other members of his army “thanks to Darkseid“
Page 23 – Panel 5: The Quintessence appear, whom Darkseid killed at the end of INFINITE FRONTIER #0, presumably allowing them to be used as vessels for the Great Darkness. Along the top are Shazam; the Phantom Stranger; Hera; and Highfather; with Ganthet in the bottom left.
Page 24 – Panel 1: The remaining member is revealed as the now corrupted Spectre.
Page 24 – Panel 2: And he appears to kill John Stewart.
Page 25 – Panels 1 to 3: Batman attempts to tackle Pariah and stop him completing his machine, but is prevented by the shadow demons.
Page 25 – Panel 5: Green Arrow steps up.
Page 26: Green Arrow fires a single shaft that slips through and between the various battles going on, succeeding where Batman failed.
Page 27 – Panels 1 and 2: And the shot lands on Pariah’s machine before blowing it up.
Page 27 – Panel 4: With Pariah’s control or access to the Great Darkness damaged, the Dark Army begin to falter.
Page 27 – Panel 5: And the shadow demons disappear.
Page 27 – Panel 6: Green Arrow’s offer to make chili refers to his favourite home made dish.
Page 28 – Panel 1: Unfortunately, Doomsday is strong enough to deliver a devastating blow.
Page 28 – Panel 3: Black Canary’s scream decimates Doomsday.
Page 29 – Panel 2: And Green Arrow passes away in Black Canary’s arms.
Page 29 – Panel 4: Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman confront Pariah.
Page 29 – Panel 5: Batman signals a retreat to Dr Multiverse while they finish up with Pariah.
Pages 30 and 31: Pariah’s blast strikes the three heroes and they disintegrate, dying across multiple panels in the same way Barry Allen’s death was shown in CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS #8.
Page 32 – Panel 2: The same power is unleashed across the other heroes – John Stewart; Zatanna; Aquaman; Hawkgirl; and Martian Manhunter, killing them all.
Page 32 – Panels 4 to 6: While Black Adam’s lightning was effective against Darkseid, his fists have no effect on Pariah.
Page 33 – Panel 3: Justice League Incarnate are attacked by Pariah’s power – Catpain Carrot; President Superman; Thunderer; Dr Multiverse; and Avery Ho begin to disintegrate.
Page 33 – Panel 4: Pariah turns his power against Black Adam.
Page 33 – Panel 6: Pariah telling Adam he will be happy may imply that instead of killing the heroes, Pariah has sent them to their own “best of all possible worlds” as he did with Flash.
Pages 34 and 35: Speaking his magic word sends a bolt of lightning to the pair of them, sending them falling to the ground.
Page 36 – Panel 1: Back on Earth-0 and the Hall of Justice.
Page 36 – Panel 2: Following the disappearance of the League at the start of the issue, heroes have gathered to try and find them. Left to right are Wally West; Naomi; Detective Chimp; and Firestorm.
Page 36 – Pale 3: They’re joined by Superman’s son, Jon Kent.
Page 37: A massive crash is heard and the heroes go to investigate.
Page 38: And they find Black Adam, his face scarred by Pariah, who tells them the League are dead.
