The animated film Superman: Man of Tomorrow was released in 2020 and became the first in a series of connected animated films with a shared universe and characters, dubbed the Tomorrowverse. In 2024, the Tomorrowverse would face it’s biggest threat, the Crisis on Infinite Earths, with the event taking place over three films. A link to the summary of part 1 is here and part 2 is here.
Part 3 begins with the final scenes of part 2, showing the Anti-Monitor’s giant form growing an armoured shell and Supergirl, angered by Psycho Pirate, killing the Monitor.
On the satellite, the Monitor’s body is absorbed in a beam of light which powers up the satellite which in turn sends out beams of energy to the multiple Earths still in existence. As the Anti-Monitor is about to destroy the Earth where he faces the gathered heroes, it and every other Earth disappears.
We cut to the Bleed, the interdimensional space between dimensions where the Earths and the satellite reappear.
Hawkgirl and Superman are next seen in the Bleed, searching amongst the ruins of Earth-46 which was destroyed in Part 2. They’ve been at it “for weeks” before they find the frozen body of Wonder Woman. Taking her back to the satellite, she is revived (being immortal) by Superman’s heat vision. As she recovers, Lois Lane tells her they have been looking for her for eight months.
Wonder Woman mourns the loss of all the dead while she still lives, and the heroes tell her of the Bleed as an “unstable dimension” and how it’s not going to last forever, even though it’s now hidden from the Anti-Monitor. The past and presents of all Earths are constantly colliding, and natural resources are at emergency levels.
Aquaman heads up the heroes who are coordinating efforts between the Earths, but things are stretched and hard decisions are being made. Mr Terrific explains that the Monitor had billions of years of cosmic energy stored in his cells and, when he died, that power was released to power the towers. Dr Light somewhat spitefully points out that Supergirl killed the Monitor, and that she is now wracked by guilt.
On Earth-1, a handful of the heroes investigate a wall of energy in Metropolis which ultimately releases a horde of dinosaurs. Green Arrow takes the opportunity to flirt with Black Canary, while Wonder Woman uses her lasso to tame and ride a Tyrannosaurus Rex. The heroes are joined by a band of World War II heroes who burst through the same energy wall that released the dinosaurs. Captain Storm explains they’re lost in time and are trying to corral the dinosaurs to stop them hurting anyone. With the dinosaurs sent back through the energy wall along with the Losers, the wall disappears.
On Earth-10, Lex Luthor hosts ameeting of the Legion of Doom where the Joker claims the dinosaur attack yielded no deaths, and Poison Ivy tells them that chronal anomolies are affecting their Earth as well, with an erupting Mount Vesuvius appearing in Central City, and that the Bleed cannot sustain the Earths indefinitely. Luthor, however, claims he has a way of saving everyone.
In a locked cell, Luthor holds the Psycho Pirate who is being tortured by the Eloctrucutioner. Luthor needs the Pirate to get in touch with the Anti-Monitor.
On Earth-2, the Bat-Family made up of heroes from multiple Earths are waiting for an attack that arrives almost on time – Nazi’s who have raided the Gotham armory and are now carrying weapons from some of Batman’s deadliest villains. Batman himself takes a massive dose of Scarecrow’s fear toxin and while attacking the Nazis, has a vision of an old Barry Allen appearing before him, telling him to go back to the beginning. Robin calls in an emergency extraction for Batman, before the other members of the Bat-Family are taken to the satellite as well.
Batgirl talks with Supergirl about the time Kara spent with Brainiac and the Legion of Super-Heroes, but Supergirl refuses to be consoled. An alarm sounds and they head to the satellite headquarters just as Lex Luthor transports himself into the satellite. He and Mr Terrific find a buckling in the Bleed above Earth-146, Aquaman’s homeworld, and they’re horrified to watch the giant Anti-Monitor tearing through the Bleed and sending an anti-matter wave towards Earth-146. Aquaman demands to be transported over to his home so that he can die with Mera, his wife, and their child. Terrific reluctantly sends him home and, united with his family, Aquaman and Earth-146 are consumed by anti-matter, before the Anti-Monitor retreats, sealing the tear behind him.

Batman wakes on the satellite calling out Barry’s name, and is being treated by Dr Elizabeth Chapel. Batman deduces that in the ten days he’s been treated, something has happened. Dr Chapel tells him that two more Earths have been destroyed by the Anti-Monitor since Earth-146.
Batman tells the other heroes about his vision of Barry and how the Flash had given him a message. Dr Fate casts a spell that examines Batman’s vision and determines that it really happened and that the message about going back to the beginning refers to a time before the Multiverse even existed.
John Stewart tells them about meeting John Constantine and how he had been tortured since before existence. Constantine had left Stewart after they’d all arrived in the Bleed and no-one knew where he was.
It doesn’t take Batman and the others long to track Constantine down to an old-West saloon on Earth-18 where he’s attempting to drink himself into a stupor, but the patrons of the bar aren’t happy with him. Batman and the others arrive for Constantine but the patrons are spoiling for a fight which inevitably breaks out before being brought to an by the arrival of Bat Lash. Dr Fate divines that Constantine is older than the Multiverse.
On Earth-2, natural disasters strike in Metropolis and the Justice Society do what they can to help save civilians, as another tear opens in the sky above them. As the Anti-Monitor peers through to attack, various heroes try to stop him but are easily wiped out before another wave of anti-matter heads towards Earth-2 and destroys it and everyone on it, including the Society.
Lois Lane wonders why the Anti-Monitor was able to find them after all this time, and the Question suggests that someone within the Bleed told the Anti-Monitor how to find them. Accused by Lois of selling them out, Luthor admits to getting in touch with the Anti-Monitor.
Back on Earth-18, Dr Fate holds a seance in the saloon with Constantine and the other heroes, using magic to help Batman investigate Constantine’s damaged memories. In astral form, Batman and Constantine are taken back to the fall of Constantine’s world, after Darkseid had destroyed the Earth. On that Earth, the Constantine of that time asked Barry Allen’s Flash to wipe the board clean, sending him off with a spell attached.
Lois and the heroes berate Luthor’s activities, but he claims he did it to learn more about the Anti-Monitor and collect more data in order to defeat him. But before they can deal with Luthor, the Anti-Monitor returns.
In Constantine’s memories, they have followed the Flash to Apokolips, home planet of Darkseid and notice that as the Flash passes by the Parademons that guard the world, they simply fall dead. Constantine remembers that the spell he used was a bad one, that needed him to slice off a piece of his soul.
As the heroes watch, the Anti-Monitor destroys Kamandi’s home world, despite all the effort and resources the heroes put in place. Luthor again claims that he’s just collecting data on the Anti-Monitor and that he now has the measure of the Anti-Monitor. He says the Anti-Monitor is susceptible to light-based attacks and, despite Dr Light’s protestations when he suggests using the sun, Luthor explains that what they see as a single sun is actually hundreds of suns. Each Earth that came into the Bleed brought with it its own sun, all phasing in the same location within the Bleed. Mr Terrific claims fifty two suns would generate enough energy to kill the Anti-Monitor.
Luthor reveals his plan needs someone who can collect and store solar energy and Lois Lane claims Luthor is even now, with the fate of all existence, taking the opportunity to kill Superman as he knows Superman would not survive the attack. Superman, ever the hero, is willing to sacrifice himself to save billions of people.
On Apokolips, the Flash stands over the crib holding the baby Darkseid, the one time in his existence he was vulnerable to an attack. Watching in astral form, Constantine explains that Darkseid is a fixed point in time, something that had to exist, and that he sent the Flash to kill him. Batman claims that the Flash wouldn’t be able to kill an infant, and he doesn’t, but Constantine’s spell didn’t need him to physically kill the baby Darkseid; just like the Parademons, simply being near him was enough – Constantine’s spell would kill anyone near the Flash.
Superman heads to the sun to absorb the energy but is beaten to it by Supergirl who needs this opportunity to right things for killing the Monitor. The Anti-Monitor returns and Captain Atom prevents Superman from following Supergirl, saying he is needed to take on the Anti-Monitor. Supergirl dives into the sun as the rest of the remaining heroes gather around the Anti-Monitor and they try to break through the monster’s armor plating to help Supergirl’s attack.
Luthor suddenly contacts the satellite and tells them to deactivate the towers that are the only thing keeping the Earths in the Bleed, but Dr Light realises Luthor is possessed, and assumes it’s the Anti-Monitor’s doing.
Full of solar energy, Supergirl launches herself at the Anti-Monitor.
Superman takes hold of Luthor who, with eyes glowing red, refers to him as “Clark” and asks him to turn off the towers. Trusting his instincts, Superman tells Mr Terrific to do as he says.
As the towers power down, Batman and Constantine return from their astral journey and rejoin the others in the saloon on Earth-18 as a green glow appears outside.
All of the Earths appear in the same universe, and the Anti-Monitor targets Earth-16 but just before he attacks, Warworld appears and fires its massive cannon, temporarily blasting a hole in the Anti-Monitor’s chest. Superman realises the person possessing Luthor is the Martian Manhunter who is in charge of Warworld, along with Adam Strange.
Superman remembers Warworld is powered by the fear of its inhabitants and wonders if there’s a way of supercharging its artillery.
On Earth-18, three Green and one Blue Lanterns arrive and grant John Stewart a new power ring.
On Earth-10, the Electrocutioner, possessed by Martian Manhunter, recruits the Psycho Pirate. The Anti-Monitor attacks Warworld, but the reformed Green Lantern Corps are able to defend it.
Supergirl and Superman share some final words, with Supergirl resigned to her fate.
Psycho Pirate uses his emotional powers to connect with every person through all the Earths as the Anti-Monitor approaches Warworld. The Anti-Monitor’s attach is disrupted by the emotionally powered beam from Warworld which also blasts a massive hole within the Anti-Monitor’s chest, though the plan leaves the Psycho Pirate a gibbering wreck.
As the Anti-Monitor’s body begins to repair itself, the solar powered Supergirl flies inside and detonates, blowing it apart, at the cost of her life. Superman finds her and carries her back to Warworld where the heroes have since gathered.
Batman, Dr Fate and Constantine reveal that the Multiverse is a mistake, and that Darkseid must exist. Constantine’s murder of Darkseid caused the universe to split and continue splitting, creating more and more alternate Earths. Dr Fate describes the Multiverse as a cancer, and Dr Chapel realises the Anti-Monitor was nothing more than an anti-body, a defense mechanism for the universe and that there is never a single anti-body.
At that moment, multiple Anti-Monitors appear on the screens of Warworld and the heroes realise they cannot win against them. The Huntress claims they would need a miracle, and Batgirl remembers Supergirl telling her of the Legion’s Miracle Machine, hidden in a pocket dimension.
Captain Atom volunteers Nightshade to teleport into this pocket dimension, and Martian Manhunter telepathically guides her to the right place where they find the long dormant Miracle Machine. The Manhunter helps Nightshade return the Machine to Warworld and Constantine determines there’s a way to solve everything, but that no-one will like it.
While they debate, Mr Terrific notes that the Anti-Monitors are attacking Earth-508 where the Super Friends from the 70s are stationed.
Constantine tells the heroes that the Miracle Machine must be used to create a new “monoverse” where, Dr Fate tells them, all versions of the heroes will be merged into a single timeline, a single history, where none of them would remember anything of the Crisis.
As Superman fights against the idea, determined to save them all, Lois Lane reminds him that his own father had done something similar, saving his world metaphorically by literally saving his son.
John Stewart attempts to recharge the Miracle Machine but it doesn’t work, and Constantine realises it needs a sacrifice and nominates himself as the cause of everything. He casts a spell, but that doesn’t work either.
Meanwhile, Earth-12, the home of Batman The Animated Series and, by extension, Justice League Unlimited, is targeted by the Anti-Monitors and destroyed like the others.
Wonder Woman realises that the sacrifice needed is for something – or someone – immortal and she offers up herself, despite the protestations of Superman.
As they talk, Earth-2003 (possibly home to the Teen Titans Go! characters) is destroyed.
Wonder Woman lays her lasso on the Miracle Machine and it comes to lift, absorbing Wonder Woman and opening a portal to the new “monoverse” where a single Earth and sun exists.
The Spectre appears and comforts the Superman of Earth-2, saying that he will be a part of the Superman of the monoverse. The other heroes and villains on Warworld head into the portal, though the Question rejects the Spectre and the reality he represents, staying on Warworld. Batman worries that in the new world he may not be able to let people in, but Huntress puts his mind at ease.
Constantine speaks with the Spectre as Earth-10 – and the Psycho Pirate – are destroyed, and while Constantine is convinced he’s heading to Hell, the Spectre says this time he can offer some hope. The portal closes and Constantine remains on Warworld, following the Spectre into the mist.
The epilogue shows a new Themyscira with a young Diana playing on the edge of a cliff before she is reminded by her mother than she may be brave, but she is not immortal.
