Mash-Up #18

Twice a week I randomly generate two dates and then compare the titles I own from both of them, trying to find some covers that, with a little basic photoshopping, I can mash together, and then I force the results on you lovely people.

By the way, I admit to being HUGELY influenced by the wonderful Super-Team Family blog which has been doing this for years (and a lot better) on an almost daily basis.

Hey, look – it’s my first Marvel/DC mash-up!

I really liked early Justice League Europe, probably up to the Breakdowns cross-over with Justice League America that ended the Giffen/DeMatteis era; after that, I think things started to slide downhill.

The Harley Quinn/Power Girl miniseries by Palmiotti, Conner and others was great – a nice call back to their run on Power Girl from pre-New 52.

Monday Mash-Ups #9

Back on my old blog, I ran a series of related posts on Mondays and I’ve been wanting to do something along those lines here.

So, and I admit to being HUGELY influenced by the wonderful Super-Team Family blog which has been doing this for years (and a lot better) on an almost daily basis, I’ve mashed up a few comic covers.

Each week I randomly generate two years and two months and then compare the titles I own from both those dates, trying to find some covers that, with a little basic photoshopping, I can mash together, and then I force the results on you lovely people.

While not everything in the New 52 was a success, Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE deserved to last longer than it did, I thought; consistently fun and crazy at the same time. And hey, the original Infinity Inc, while of its time, was a good run, too.

As of next week’s Mash-Up, you might notice a change of approach to these.

And as an aside, it had to happen sooner or later – the excellent Super Team Family blog used one of the same covers that I’ve used in a post over the weekend; I used that same cover in Mash-Up #5.

Heroes In Crisis

News broke about the next big DC event, Heroes in Crisis by Tom King, dealing with heroes in “a sort of trauma center where [they] can go when things get overwhelming” called Sanctuary.

There’s more to it than that, of course, as it includes a murder mystery and is “also about what happens when Sanctuary fails, resulting in catastrophic consequences for the DCU”

The cover doesn’t give much away, although that might be the Medusa Mask of the Psycho-Pirate that Superman’s holding, along with the figures in white who also appear to be wearing the same style mask, but among the many characters in the crowd, I noticed Power Girl, just behind Hal Jordan’s head. That’s more evidence that that the original PG’s coming back.

I’ll be picking this up, though it sounds more akin to Identity Crisis than any of the other Crisis events, and we all know what a bundle of laughs that turned out to be. My only real knowledge of Tom King is the much acclaimed Omega Men miniseries from a few years ago; while it was good, I disliked the abrupt change in Kyle Rayner as King suddenly made him a devout Catholic, something that was never mentioned before and hasn’t appeared since.

Still, I guess we wait and see.
