Doomsday Clock Covers

I step away from the internet for a few days and what happens? DC release the first covers for the forthcoming Doomsday Clock series where Superman goes up against Dr Manhattan:

Somewhere along the line, I’d thought this was going to be a six issue series so was pleasantly surprised to note the cover saying “1 of 12”

All trepidation around mixing Watchmen with the DCU aside, that looks like a really nice piece of work from series artist Gary Frank.

Green Lantern: Earth One

Here’s some good news: Green Lantern will be joining the Earth One collection of books next year.

I have all three Superman titles and both Batman books, along with the Teen Titans (volume 1 – volume 2 is on order) and the Wonder Woman book (though that one’s still on my ever growing too read pile) so I’m looking forward to a new take on GL.

I have to admit to a little disappointment, though, that it’s Hal Jordan in the starring role. One of the strengths of the GL stories is the sheer number of characters – any of the main GLs of Earth aside from Jordan (John Stewart, Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner, Simon Baz, Jessica Cruz, even Alan Scott) could have just as easily played the lead.

But Jordan is Green Lantern in the same way that Barry Allen is the Flash; other characters will come along but they’ll always cycle back to those, I suppose.

Mind you, the set-up sounds promising. In this version, Jordan is an . . .

astronaut for Ferris Galactic, and all of the Green Lantern Corps have been murdered by the Manhunters – and its up to him to re-start the group.

Ferris Galactic? Sounds like any future/alien tech of Earth One is a lot more accessible than in the main DCU.

Screw You, CBR!

I mentioned before about Comic Book Resources annoying me with their inclusion of spoilers in their headlines or at the start of their articles; because I still use a feed reader, I can sometimes be surprised by spoilers of comics, TV or films and I hate that.

I haven’t been reading The Button, the current crossover between Batman and The Flash, but I’m interested about the connections to the Watchmen and Rebirth mystery connection so have been keeping half an eye on things. Checking my feed over the weekend, I see this:

I’ve redacted the headline and the picture because of spoilers! How difficult was that, CBR?

It’s the last straw, for me – I’ve unsubscribed from them partly because of crap like this, but also because of their annoying auto play videos and the seemingly never ending list based articles:

Seriously – what is the fascination with 15?

I’ll miss The Line It Is Drawn and the Comic Book Legends Revealed but apart from that, I’ll rely on other sources for my news.

Doomsday Clock Thoughts

So, it’s actually happening – Superman and Dr Manhattan are going to meet up sometime in or after November this year.

Geoff Johns is back to write a story about optimism versus pessimism and, surprisingly for a big event . . .

There are no crossovers. No watered down one-shots or mini-series on top of this one. This is a standalone story.

This concept – the DCU vs Watchmen could have been played out on a scale as large as Crisis on Infinite Earths if they’d wanted, so it’ll be interesting to see what they do with it.
