Cover: Left to right, top to bottom are Hawkgirl; Martian Manhunter; Zatanna; Green Arrow; Black Canary; Superman; Aquaman; Green Lantern; Wonder Woman; and The Night (aka Batman). These are the versions of the heroes as they saw themselves in their dream worlds as covered in Crossovers Part 3.
Variant Covers can be found at the bottom of the page.
Page 1 – Panel 1: The map of the multiverse showing the corruption of the Great Darkness.
Page 1 – Panel 2: Left to right are Black Adam; multiple Multiplexes; Typhoon; and Firefly. In the background is the head qaurters of the Legion of Doom. This fight continues from the previous issue.
Page 1 – Panel 3: Black Adam calls down his lightning which throws off his attackers.
Page 1 – Panel 4: As he says, Black Adam used the same play against the Dark Army in JUSTICE LEAGUE #75.
Page 1 – Panel 5: But Sinestro uses his ring construct to gag Adam.
Page 1 – Panel 6: Cheetah joins the fray. Note that Sinestro’s chains are missing, even though they were visible in the preceding panel. As this isn’t mentioned or has any bearing on the story, I’m taking it as an art error.
Page 2 – Panel 1: And here comes the cavalry. Flying is Supergirl; right to left below her are Mr Terrific; Sideways; and Aqualad.
Page 2 – Panel 2: The only previously unmentioned character is Lex Luthor in the middle of the panel.
Page 2 – Panel 3: Ignoring the silhouettes, left to right are Phobia; Luthor; Prometheus; and Black Manta.
Page 2 – Panel 4: Lex and the others are left as Sideways teleports out. Note the chains around them – Luthor and the Legion of Doom were taken by the Darkness in the previous issue.
Page 3 – Panel 1: The heroes return to the Hall of Justice and Sinestro’s gag disappears. On the right is Barbara Gordon.
Page 3 – Panel 2: Nightwing approaches. His comment about the Legion of Doom must mean that the heroes, at this point, don’t know the Legion have fallen to the Darkness, otherwise it makes no sense.
Page 3 – Panel 4: Amazo attacking Firestorm; Mr Terrific’s narration here and in the next two panels shows Deathstroke to be the key to spreading the Darkness.
Page 3 – Panel 5: Giganta attacking Mary Marvel.
Page 3 – Panel 6: On the left are the Fearsome Five facing off against the Doom Patrol on the right. Top to bottom in the Fearsome Five are Mammoth; Gizmo; Jinx; Shimmer; and Psimon. In the Doom Patrol are Elasti-Girl; Negative Man; and Robotman.
Page 3 – Panels 7 and 8: Nightwing wants all heroes to converge on the Hall and bring Deathstroke to them.
Pages 4 and 5: Credits for this issue.
Pages 6 and 7 – Panel 1: As Pariah says, the Infinite Earths return. I think this is the first time they’ve been shown mimicking the famous double helix of DNA.
Pages 6 and 7 – Panel 2: Left to right are Darkseid; Neron; Doomsday; and Eclipso, part of Pariah’s Dark Army.
Pages 6 and 7 – Panel 3: Held by shadow demons are Green Lanterns Kyle Rayner on the left, and Jo Mullein on the right.
Pages 6 and 7 – Panels 4 and 5: Pariah is first angry then in pain as the Great Darkness apparently talks to him.
Pages 6 and 7 – Panel 8: And for some reason, Pariah is counting on the Justice League reforming.
Page 8 – Panels 1 and 2: Flash and the Batman, called The Night, of this world continue their battle.
Page 8 – Panel 3: Meanwhile Hal Jordan notices the black lightning in the sky and the red skies, a sure sign that a Crisis is imminent.
Page 9 – Panel 1: At the time of writing, I’m not sure where Barry and The Night met; it wasn’t in WORLDS WITHOUT A JUSTICE LEAGUE: BATMAN but will update this once I find out.
Page 9 – Panel 2: The Night’s device somehow affects the Speed Force, bringing Barry to a halt.
Page 9 – Panels 3 and 4: Hal realises his power ring is still in place and that The Night is still the Batman that they know.
Page 9 – Panel 6: Hal uses the power ring to present The Night with a construct showing . . .
Page 10 – Panel 1: . . . his extended Bat-family. Top row is Robin (Tim Drake); Batwoman; Red Hood; middle row is Batgirl (Cassandra Cain); Batgirl (Stephanie Brown); the Signal; bottom row is Barbara Gordon; Nightwing; Robin (Damian Wayne).
Page 10 – Panel 2: The Night is startled enough to break out of the illusion.
Page 10 – Panels 3 and 4: When Hal asks how to make the remaining League members realise their worlds are lies, Batman responds with “Who else do we know who is an expert in the truth?” A clear reference to Wonder Woman and her lasso of truth.
Page 11 – Panel 1: The same map of the multiverse we saw on Page 1 – Panel 1, but with more Darkness across it.
Page 11 – Panel 2: More heroes arrive as Mr Terrific’s narration suggest splitting into teams. Left to right are Bratgirl (in silhouette); Captain Atom; Crush; Roundhouse; Vixen; Firestorm; and Kid Flash.
Page 11 – Panel 3: Left to right are Supergirl; Mr Terrific; Green Lantern Alan Scott; Nightwing; Robin (Damian); Barbara Gordon; Wonder Girl (Yara Flor); and Dr Light. Barbara refers to the call that went out on Page 3, asking heroes to gather at the Hall.
Page 11 – Panel 4: Though Blue Beetle Jaime Reyes has rejected it after the dissolution of the nascent Justice League in issue #3.
Page 11 – Panel 5: However, Red Canary whom we saw putting her mask on in issue #3, has arrived and stands before a picture of her inspiration, Black Canary.
Page 11 – Panel 6: Left to right are Starfire; Flash (Wally West); Arsenal; Nightwing; Cyborg; and Donna Troy. The “like old times” line from Cyborg about them taking on Deathstroke is pertinent as these are the core members of the Teen Titans from the 1980s run.
Page 11 – Panel 6: And the Titans Academy students arrive. Left to right are Red Arrow; a silhouette; Bratgirl; Megabat; Roundhouse; Crush; and Stitch.
Page 12 – Panel 1: Beast Boy is finally back up and about.
Page 12 – Panel 2: Nightwing spent much of issue #3 waiting beside Beast Boy’s bed.
Page 12 – Panel 5: The Justice Society ead off to “handle the multiverse” like it’s no big deal. Left to right are Nightwing; Wildcat (Yolanda Montez); Obsidian; Jade; Dr Fate; Green Lantern (Alan); Wildcat (Ted Grant); indistinct character; Power Girl; and the silhouette of Hawkman.
Page 13 – Panel 1: Left to right are Raven; Swamp Thing (Levi Kamei); Swamp Thing (Alec Holland); and Superman (Jon Kent). Superman’s speech neatly summarises the events of DARK CRISIS: THE DEADLY GREEN as seen in Crossovers Part 4. Superman is carrying . . .
Page 13 – Panel 2: . . . “Pariah’s original anti-matter chamber” that, as he says, was featured in CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS.
Page 13 – Panels 4 and 5: Robin recruits Dr Light and they head off into DARK CRISIS: THE DARK ARMY which will be covered in Crossovers Part 6.
Page 13 – Panel 6: Kid Flash, Flash (Wally), and Jesse Quick arrive . . . which makes no sense as we saw Kid Flash arrive on Page 11 – Panel 2, and Flash was just part of the Titans line-up on Page 11 – Panel 6.
Page 14 – Panel 1: Deathstroke’s army has arrived.
Page 14 – Panel 2: Left to right are Crazy Quilt; Phobia; Black Spider; Deathstroke; Multiplex; Copperhead.
Page 14 – Panel 3: Left to right are Black Lightning; Ice; Skorpio; Carmen Leno; Multiplex; Firefly; Lion Mane; Felix Faust.
Page 14 – Panel 4: Behind the Titans is an image of various incarnations of the Justice League. Left to right the six panels show the earliest incarnation; next is the satellite years; third is the Giffen/DeMatteis/Maguire Justice League International/America/Europe team; fourth is the Grant Morrison/Howard Porter JLA; fifth is the Brad Meltzer/Ed Benes League; and sixth is the Geoff Johns/Jim Lee League. See the notes on Pages 16 and 17 for a full breakdown.
Page 15 – Panels 1 to 3: Black Adam is both angry and afraid.
Page 15 – Panel 4: Left to right are Hellhound; Lex Luthor; Girder; Multiplex; Phobia.
Page 15 – Panel 6: We’ve seen the majority of characters here but for completeness sake starting at the bottom with Nightwing; left of him is Beast Boy; above him is Raven; above her is Roundhouse; in front of him is Wonder Girl; left of her is Aqualad; above him is Megabat; left of Aqualad is Black Ice; in front of her is Superman.
Page 15 – Panel 7: Black Adam makes his point – the assembled heroes are not the Justice League.
Page 15 – Panel 8: Nightwing agrees with him.
Pages 16 and 17 – Panel 1: They are the Titans. Image below, key below that:
1) Supergirl 2) Firestorm 3) Starfire 4) Skeets 5) Booster 6) Beast Boy transforming into a tiger 7) Wonder Girl 8) Superman 9) Captain Atom 10) Black Ice 11) Roundhouse 12) Jesse Quick 13) Megabat 14) Flash 15) Donna Troy 16) Crush 17) Vixen 18) Bratgirl 19) Cyborg 20) Frankenstein 21) Raven 22) Kid Flash 23) Nightwing 24) Stitch 25) Aqualad 26) Blue Beetle 27) Red Arrow
The pictures of the Justice League are as follows (I know some of the numbers obscure some of faces, particularly in the fifth column, so apologies for that):
1) Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) 2) Flash (Barry Allen) 3) Wonder Woman 4) Batman 5) Superman 6) Hawkman 7) Elongated Man 8) Zatanna 9) Black Canary 10) Martian Manhunter 11) The Atom 12) Red Tornado 13) Firestorm 14) Green Arrow 15) Flash (Barry Allen) 16) Aquaman 17) Wonder Woman 18) Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) 19) Superman 20) Mr Miracle 21) Oberon 22) Black Canary 23) Dr Light 24) Martian Manhunter 25) Batman 26) Dr Fate 27) Captain Marvel 28) Blue Beetle 29) Green Lantern (Guy Gardner) 30) Martian Manhunter 31) Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner) 32) Aquaman 33) Flash (Wally West) 34) Wonder Woman 35) Batman 36) Superman 37) Booster Gold 38) Hawkman 39) Vixen 40) Cyborg 41) Red Tornado 42) Huntress 43) Zatanna 44) Supergirl 45) Captain Marvel 46) Elongated Man 47) Aquaman 48) Power Girl 49) Flash (Wally West) 50) Red Arrow 51) Black Canary 52) Black Lightning 53) Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) 54) Wonder Woman 55) Lex Luthor 56) Captain Marvel 57) unknown 58) Cyborg 59) Captain Cold 60) Aquaman 61) Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) 62) Flash (Barry Allen) 63) Wonder Woman 64) Batman 65) Superman
Pages 16 and 17 – Panel 2: Left to right are Nightwing; Starfire; Captain Cold; Beast Boy; silhouette of Superman; Girder; Stitch; Multiplex; Supergirl; Lex Luthor; and Weather Wizard.
Pages 16 and 17 – Panel 3: Deathstroke arrives with Typhoon in the air.
Pages 16 and 17 – Panel 4: He has Ravager at his side; we last saw her in issue #3 where her fate was ambiguous but here it’s confirmed she’s been possessed by the Great Darkness.
Page 18 – Panel 1: Superman in the Kent farm in his imaginary world as we saw in WORLDS WITHOUT A JUSTICE LEAGUE: SUPERMAN as noted in Crossovers Part 3. Note the red skies and black lightning.
Page 18 – Panel 3: The picture he holds shows his son, Jon, himself, and his wife Lois.
Page 18 – Panel 4: This is Superman – he’s already heard the others arrive.
Page 19 – Panel 1: Between Page 10 and now, Barry, Hal, and The Night/Batman have rounded up Wonder Woman. Superman is aware that the world he inhabits isn’t real.
Page 19 – Panel 5: Rather than relying on brute force, Superman has spent his time here learning how to interact with his world.
Page 19 – Panels 6 and 7: Superman has become lucid, not only aware of his imaginary prison, but able to change it.
Page 20 – Panel 1: Superman appears to have absorbed his world’s energy.
Page 20 – Panel 3: Their focus will be their friends. Within the globe, starting at the bottom and then working clockwise inwards are Superman; Aquaman; Zatanna; Martian Manhunter; Hawkgirl; Green Arrow; Black Canary; Flash; Batman; and Green Lantern John Stewart.
Page 21 – Panel 1: The same multiverse map as seen on Page 1 and Page 11, this time with much more corruption in place. These snippets of the map have been spaced ten pages apart each time.
Page 21 – Panel 3: Pariah watches as the Earths above him lose their coherence and begin to self-destruct.
Page 21 – Panel 5: He turns to the captive Green Lanterns, Kyle Rayner and Jo Mullein, planning to use them to create more worlds.
Page 21 – Panel 6: But he is stopped by . . .
Page 22 – Panel 1: . . . the arrival of the Justice League. All of them are still in the guises we saw in the WORLD WITHOUT A JUSTICE LEAGUE specials in Crossovers Part 3, with the exception of Superman whom we’ve just seen transform.
Top to bottom, left to right are: Hawkgirl; Superman; Martian Manhunter; Aquaman; Flash; Green Lantern (Hal); The Night/Batman; Zatanna; Wonder Woman; Green Lantern (John); Green Arrow; and Black Canary.
Page 22 – Panel 2: Pariah is not looking well.
Page 22 – Panel 4: Black Canary and Green Arrow get back together.
Page 23 – Panel 1: Pariah reveals the threat facing the Justice League – if their imaginary worlds die, the heroes will be erased.
Page 23 – Panel 2: The battle outside the Hall of Justice in full flow. Image below with the key following:
1) Multiplex 2) Superman (Jon) 3) Shrapnel 4) Firestorm 5) Booster Gold 6) Silver Banshee 7) Flash (Wally) 8) Weather Wizard 9) Gentleman Ghost 10) Dr Phosphorus 11) Skorpio 12) Nightwing 13) Starfire 14) Supergirl 15) Stitch 16) Donna Troy 17) Prometheus 18) Blue Beetle (Ted) 19) Cyborg 20) Red Arrow 21) Roundhouse 22) Cheetah
Page 23 – Panel 4: Deathstroke attacking Roundhouse.
Page 23 – Panel 5: Superman, as always, tries to reason with the bad guy.
Page 24 – Panel 1: Superman (Jon) spots the red skies and lightning and thinks it’s too late. The statues he floats above were raised in honour of the fallen League and show Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Hawkgirl.
Page 24 – Panel 2: Pariah begins to fade; as always, he is drawn to the world on the brink of destruction, which means his plan has worked.
Page 24 – Panel 3: Top to bottom are Vandal Savage; Supergirl; Multiplex; Captain Atom; Typhoon; Swamp Thing (Alec); Red Canary; and Nightwing.
Page 25 – Panel 1: Top to bottom are Typhoon; Superman (Jon); Silver Banshee; Shaggy Man; Nightwing; Cheetah; Donna Troy; Multiplex; Wonder Girl.
Page 25 – Panel 2: Superman explains where Pariah has gone.
Page 25 – Panel 3: Black Adam finally joins in and attacks Shaggy Man.
Page 25 – Panel 4: With Pariah’s disappearance, Green Lanterns Kyle Rayner and Jo Mullein are freed, and Barry realises the heroes need to get home.
Page 25 – Panel 5: The question is raised about whether Pariah was right – if the League return to their Earth, will they be erased?
Page 25 – Panel 6: And Black Adam continues to be the ray of sunshine he has been throughout this series.
Page 26: The Dark Army arrives on Earth. At the top are the Spectre and Pariah in the air; then the middle row is Neron; Ares; Darkseid; Nekron; and Eclipso; in the front are Deathstroke and Doomsday.
Variant Covers – due to the number of different covers, I’ve added them here so they don’t interfere with the main text.
