DCeased?

That post title isn’t a typo – it looks like the next big event will be MARVEL ZOMBIES sorry, DCEASED which, if nothing else, will have bloggers cursing auto-correct for months to come.

The article over at Newsarama doesn’t have a lot of information other than Tom Taylor’s involvement, the likelihood of there being a zombie outbreak in the DCU, and that puntastic title.

Not really being a fan of zombies and having bailed on HEROES IN CRISIS after just two issues, unless more information comes out to change my mind, I probably won’t be getting this.

Was it only a couple of years ago that we were all overjoyed at the promise of the Rebirth initiative to bring hope back to the DCU?

Happy St Valentine’s Day!

Mash-Up #51

Twice a week I randomly generate two dates and then compare the titles I own from both of them, trying to find some covers that, with a little basic photoshopping, I can mash together, and then I force the results on you lovely people.

By the way, I admit to being HUGELY influenced by the wonderful Super-Team Family blog which has been doing this for years (and a lot better) on an almost daily basis.

As much as I like the Ted Kord Blue Beetle, I’m still a fan of Jaime Reyes. The post-Infinite Crisis stories worked as a genuine way of introducing a new character, while the New 52, and even the Rebirth ones, didn’t really seem to gel for some reason.

100 Issues Ago October 10

I’ve had a passing fondness for steampunk – never been a major fan, but have dipped in and out every now and then. When LADY MECHANIKA turned up, I was willing to give it a go and I was so glad that I did.

Joe Benitez’s art sold me on the title initially, although his writing had become better over the years (and I can’t believe it’s been over eight years since this first issue landed) and each of the subsequent mini-series have improved on the preceding one. Mechanika herself seems to be moving beyond the initial characterisation of a woman with no memory of her past and a need to find out her origins, and instead has become part of an ensemble cast of supporting characters who are as fully formed as herself.

There’s been at least one mini-series per year since 2015 (there was a delay between 2012 and 2015 as Benitez left Aspen and formed his own publisher) and, with a bit of luck, that’ll continue.
