Crisis House Ad

Came across this house ad for what was then titled DC Universe: Crisis on Infinite Earths in Green Lantern #186, cover dated March 1985:

GL 186 Crisis Ad2As the first issue of Crisis was cover dated April ’85, just one month later, I can only guess that the ad was done months in advance which is why it still had the original series title.

Sill, it’s sort of nice to see that even at that early stage, the tag-line of “The DC Universe will never be the same” was in place.

New Crisis #7 Homage

Over the last couple of months I’ve been watching Justice League Unlimited – I never saw the series when it was first aired so it’s been fun catching up with them recently. Just this morning I caught episode 10 where Green Arrow, Green Lantern and Supergirl travel to the 31st century and meet the Legion of Super-Heroes and, following the fight between Supergirl and the mind-controlled Legion and Lantern, it looks like Kara’s ended up in a bad way:

That’s a clear homage as far as I’m concerned, so I’ve added it to the page with the others.

The origin of Crisis on Infinite Earths

Green Lantern 143Okay, maybe not the origin, but in the introduction to the Collected Edition, Marv Wolfman talks about a letter he received when he was writing Green Lantern in the early 80s. That letter prompted him to think about DC continuity and set him off on the path towards what would become Crisis on Infinite Earths.

As I have the issue in question – #143 cover dated August 1981 if you’re interested – I’ve scanned the original letter and Marv’s reply; you can find links to them from the Crisis home – the link’s in the right hand menu.

Three More Crisis Tie-Ins

DcRetroactiveSupermanThe80sI’ve added some notes to the Crisis page about two tie-ins that were published well after the event.

Two of them are written by Marv Wolfman, the original Crisis writer – the first is the Legend of the DC Universe special that acts as a sort of issue 4½ of the original series, the second a stand-alone piece written for the Retroactive series of one-shots which details Harbinger meeting Superman before the original Crisis begins.

The third is the final issue of DC’s 2015 summer event, Convergence. It’s included because its finale has a direct influence on the original Crisis.

You can find all the notes by clicking on the menu on the right.
