Spider-Man: No Way Home Review (Sort Of)

Mrs Earth-Prime and I saw this last night and it’s really good; if this is the final Tom Holland/MCU Spidey film, it’s a fitting end. Fear not – there are no spoilers here.

It’s the first time I’ve heard a cinema audience whoop, clap, and cheer at the appearance of a character on screen (trust me – British cinema audiences are a lot more reserved than Americans) but it was well deserved. And then it happened again!

The film has a lot going on, much of which is sort of dependent on you having watched the previous Spider-Man franchises, although there’s enough of a hand-wavey-multiverse explanation that even if you don’t remember them all, there’s the right amount of exposition to carry you along.

There’s a couple of nice throw aways in there, especially one in the first ten minutes or so, and there’s the usual mid-credits scene – this one will please those of us who saw Venom: Let There Be Carnage – and there’s a longer post-credits scene that makes me glad I watched not only Wandavision, but also Loki and, perhaps most surprisingly, What If…

Certainly worth a watch.

Untold Tales #479 The Avengers and The L.A.W.

I think the L.A.W. miniseries was the one and only time the ex-Earth 4 heroes banded together as that team, but hopefully the Avengers will make them feel at home.

Untold Tales #478 Black Lightning, Liberty Belle and Jimmy Olsen

What, you thought Hellcat was Black Lightning’s only ex-wife?

100 Issues Ago August 2013

Power Girl and Huntress are still trying to find their way back to Earth-2 and at the moment also trying to escape the clutches of Desaad who, it turns out, was stranded on Earth-0 back when Darkseid launched his invasion that the Justice League prevented. This issue seems like filler – it’s mostly Power Girl hunting for Huntress while she in turn escapes Desaad, only to finish with the revelation that the Apokoliptian god has somehow messed up Power Girl’s abilities which go haywire from next issue onwards.

So if it’s filler, why am I highlighting it? Because the rest of the DC titles appear to be gearing up to the FOREVER EVIL event, with Trinity War running through several titles, or other titles like STORMWATCH or ALL-STAR WESTERN were off doing their own thing. It really did seem like a mess of all sorts of things going on this month, and this was the issue that leapt out at me.

Once again it was a very DC heavy month with 17 issues and only FATALE from Image breaking the pattern.
